Matteo Belli delves into visual arts, literature, and drama as meaningful sources of inspiration for his work.
His music has been performed by Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Florence), Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina (Florence), Teatro Amazonas (Brazil), Dartmouth College (USA), Fondazione Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte & Ensemble degli Intrigati (Montepulciano), Altre Voci Ensemble (Italy), Ensemble di Musica Contemporanea Dallapiccola (Florence), DMC Ensemble at Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Florence), DUOroboros (Tuscany), and Talea Ensemble (NYC).
Dr. Belli teaches composition and music theory at Shenandoah University. In 2022-23, he taught a course on contemporary classical music at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. Previously, he was a choral conductor and professor at Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, a private conservatory based in Florence, Italy.
His conducting repertoire includes music by Bach, Beethoven, Berio, Bernstein, Brahms, Duruflé, Fauré, Grossi, Handel, Haydn, Henze, Holst, Monteverdi, Mouret, Mozart, Palestrina, Pärt, Pezzati, Poulenc, Puccini, Renosto, Rheinberger, Rossini, Scarlatti, Stravinsky, Tallis, Tchaikovsky, and Wolf-Ferrari.
